Crack Activity Meter

The CAM enables the pavement engineer to measure the load-associated movement of cracks in a pavement. A knowledge of the magnitude of crack movement assists in the selection of an appropriate surfacing to accommodate crack movement, thus preventing or retarding crack reflection. crack movement, thus preventing or retarding crack reflection.

This instrument fits comfortably between the tyres of a dual wheel on the HVS test carriage and measures the relative movement across the crack traversed by the wheel. Both vertical and horizontal movements are recorded. The crack movement can then be simulated in the laboratory to evaluate the ability of materials to retard crack reflection.
